Government Misconduct:
Outlier or Epidemic?
Over the last 18 months, several high profile cases have been derailed by findings of governmental misconduct, including the prosecutions of U.S. Senator Ted Stevens, several Broadcom executives and Brocade’s CEO. What is behind this apparent rash of governmental improprieties? How did the defense expose or exploit these misdeeds? What lessons can be learned from these cases for future matters involving governmental agencies from the SEC to the Department of Justice? Please join our panel of distinguished speakers each of whom has recent experience defending individuals in cases involving governmental misconduct.
Panelists:
Hon. Laurel Beeler, United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of California and former federal prosecutor
Robert Cary, Partner at Williams & Connolly and defense counsel to U.S. Senator Ted Stevens.
Steven Madison, Co‐Chair of Quinn Emanuel’s National Governmental Investigations and White Collar Practice and defense counsel to supermarket magnate, George Torres.
Richard Marmaro, Chair of Skadden Arps’ West Coast SEC Enforcement and White Collar Defense Practice and defense counsel to the former CEO of Brocade and former CFO of
